FROM humble beginnings ICE HOCKEY NEWS REVIEW has become the longest-established ice hockey magazine in Great Britain.

Ice Hockey News Review became the first full-time magazine covering ice hockey in 1981 when Vic Batchelder launched it from his base in Derby, England.

Frustrated at the lack of media coverage his sport attracted, Batchelder rose to an offer to "put up or shut up" by launching IHNR. The first issue was a single sheet of A4, photocopied and folded into an A5 magazine.

Ice Hockey in Britain began to boom and the mid-eighties saw the sport emerge from regional leagues to the Heineken British League, which helped Ice Hockey News Review establish itself as a full-blown fortnightly magazine.

The efforts of editor and owner Vic Batchelder, who decided to make the magazine his occupation and gave up his full-time job, saw the magazine prosper and become a glossy magazine, eventually becoming all-colour.

In mid-1999 Batchelder put the magazine up for sale and it was bought by Pinegen Ltd, who had been responsible for the design since the early 90s.

Pinegen Ltd, also publishers of Speedway Star magazine, switched the magazine to a weekly publication and gave its look an overhaul.

With weekly news on every Superleague and British National League club, match reports, statistics, interviews with star players and features, Ice Hockey News Review has gone into a new era.
